Our story begins with a man named Clayton. Normal though he may look, what lurks beneath is something altogether more sinister. It's a beautiful September morning, where the average downtown local can be found enjoying the weather, walking their pets, or otherwise browsing the many shops that line the streets. However for Clayton, a Evil Time Traveling Mastermind, this time is spent in deep contemplation of his next scheme.
It is no simply task, orchestrating ingenious plots to cause mayhem and chaos, nor is it a cheap one. After much thought, and little planning, Clayton sets off the one of his preferred pawn shops to hock his possessions. Weighed down with things to pawn, he decides to stop for a bite to eat, wondering if perhaps a day job would have been a more sufficient means to pay for these diabolical plans.
With nothing in his way, Clayton heads to Court Square to begin his journey through time. See the thing about Clayton is he's an evil mastermind. It didn't take him long to discover the secret to Time Travel, after all, isn't it on the top of all evil genius's lists? After much study and many tests he discovered a rip in time, yes, an actual rip in the realm of time and space itself- in Court Square and with the right tools he could view it, and use it as he see's fit. His goal is to locate a long lost magical artifact, with his only clue of it being it's likeness to a horse. In the past, Katherine and Joyce continue their search for the artifact unbeknownst to the arrival of the evil Clayton. Ordained as Guardians, Katherine and Joyce have spent their lives seeking out the artifact that incapable hands have misplaced, in order to protect it.
They pay a visit to the wise Samantha of St. James. She is said to have vast knowledge of many things, but more specifically, information of a mysterious horse that roams the night, seen only out of the corner of one's eye, it's sadness seeps into your pores, and it presence strikes fear in your heart. Katherine and Joyce tell her of their mission to find and protect the horse from the unsavory that would use its powers for evil. In return, she tells them a series of riddles alluding to locations, where what they seek is often spotted. A feeling of excitement washed over the girls as they rushed from the wise lady and towards their first destination.
A beautiful fountain, detailed with cranes, occupies the center of the garden. The air is almost electric with anticipation. Katherine and Joyce remain a safe distance away, testing the area with quick darting glances. After a few hours the sense of wonder begins to fade and the cold weight of disappointment sets in. They have found nothing and with heavy hearts they work out the next riddle and trudge off to the next location.
Clayton arrived in the past and began his determined search. Having accosted a strange red haired lady, he acquired a few clues that would hopefully lead him to unimaginable power. He had little success at the fountain, much like the guardians, but unlike the guardians he decided to explore the garden. After scouring the area, he discovered a stone plaque in the ground holding further instructions to finding the artifact he so desperately desired.
Meanwhile, after her terrifying encounter with the evil Clayton, the wise Samantha fled. It can't be said for certain exactly where it is she had gone, as she never returned. Some say they still see her, lurking about the city looking scared and confused.
Katherine and Joyce reach St. Lawrence market, another hub for disappointment. Searching and waiting have yet again led them astray. Nothing was to be found and their faith in the wise Samantha was failing fast.
The Flat Iron building, one of Clayton's last stops before he captures the magic artifact. Even an evil genius needs some rest, and in a constant effort to cause disarray Clayton takes refugee in establishments he is clearly not welcome in. This small bit of rebellion lulls him into a rather comfortable sleep, in often very odd places.
Just as a villain needs to sleep, a hero needs to eat. Katherine and Joyce decide to make a stop at the grocery store to acquire sustenance. Through the long aisles and shelves they find not only food but feelings of failure. How could they be capable of protecting such a powerful item when they were not even capable of finding it?
As Clayton weaves in an out of city streets he finds a walkway with his final goal in sight. All his clues have led him back to the beginning. Back to where the wise lady once resided. Spotting the impressive church from a distance Clayton makes his way towards it, the anticipation almost palpable. Thus far on his journey he has met no resistance, and bursting with confidence he moved forward to claim what he perceived to be rightfully his.
As a last desperate attempt the girls head to the Sculpture Garden, where there is another beautiful fountain. It seemed the mystical sort of place an all powerful magic horse might be found. Upon arrival however Katherine and Joyce discover little to do with what they seek. Instead the local business owners divulge that a strange young man has been about the city asking similar questions to their own. For the first time in their young lives Katherine and Joyce fear they may be too late to stop the horse from falling into the wrong hands.
Not every story has a happy ending. The smart, pretty girls don't always save the day. Sometimes the evil genius is called a genius for a reason. Clayton, as always, succeeded in his devilish plot and discovered the artifact, a strangely coloured horse not much bigger than a hand. Doubt had immediately spread through him at the curious sight of the horse. How such a small thing could contain such magnifying power seemed impossible. Impossible until he was given the gift of sight, a sight such as none us have seen. The long lost horse, overjoyed at having a master once more, gifted Clayton with spectacles of immense power, allowing him stop, slow, or speed time as he pleases. Having bested the guardians in their search for the artifact, the only question left is, What destruction can he cause with the world and time itself as his plaything?
